Silent Valley, feel the songs you never have imagined...

Silent Valley
Silent Valley National Park, is a beautiful representation of the last remaining rain forest of Kerala.
The British named the area Silent Valley because of a perceived absence of noisy cicadas.

It was called 'Sairandhrivanam' as it was considered this was where Sairandhiri (the secret identity donned by Panchali, from the epic Mahabharata) hid along with her five husbands, the Pandavas, while escaping their cruel cousins, the Kauravas.
The Kunthippuzha River which feeds the entire forest was named after Kunthi, mother of the Pandavas.

Silent Valley is closed on all sides with high and continuous ridges and steep escarpments, as a result the valley is shielded from the extremes of climate  and so it remained an ecological island with a special micro climate. It has a core area of 89.52 sq.km.

The most famous resident of the Park is Lion Tailed Macaque, whose name has become almost synonymous with that of the Valley.
From tigers, leopards, elephants, snakes, Malabar giant squirrels to moths, bugs and toads, the diversity in fauna is breath-taking.
41 mammals, 211 birds, 49 reptiles, 47 amphibians, 12 fishes, 164 butterflies and 400 species of moths are found here.

Along with them one can view over 1000 species of flowering plants and another 110 species of orchids that enchant all who see them.

The spectacular view of Nilgiris from the watch tower and the ancient untouched water of Kunthi River...
Many have passed through here...
But none have been able to put to words the exact feelings or detail the emotions evoked by the experience these forests have to offer.

Watch Tower
One shall not celebrate the day in Silent Valley, but experience it, understand it and if you are listening keenly enough you will hear its faintest heartbeat even in the silence.

So come, take the ride and befriend the silence…
